• February 5, 2020: AFEMS BoD meeting, Brussels (Belgium)
• June 4-6, 2020: AFEMS Congress, Prague (Czech Rep.)

From 6-8 June 2019, Helsinki (Finland) hosted the 2019 AFEMS Congress.
The Congress, at its 68th edition, was a great success: 115 guests joined the numerous AFEMS' Institutional and Social events scheduled in the agenda.
The General Assembly, held on 7th June, once again showed a great participation: 82 delegates representing 52 Companies and Associations from 19 different European Countries.
During the General Assembly, the AFEMS activities of the past 12 months were reported and the action plan regarding the next 12 months was presented. The Chairmen of the Committees and the Secretariat presented the progress made on projects under their responsibility.
Several presentations were illustrated by outstanding Guest Speakers. From the hunting-related themes – as discussed by Paolo Fiocchi (Università Statale di Milano), Heli Siitari (Executive Director at Finnish Hunters' Association) and Torbjörn Larsson (President of the European Federation for Hunting and Conservation) – to the more political ones – covered from the European perspective by Mauro Silvis (Secretary General of the IEACS) and from the US one by Richard Patterson (Executive Director of SAAMI). What is more, Mr Karl-Heinz Florenz, German MEP, talked about his 30-years experience in the European Parliament and his perceptions of the sector as Chair of the Biodiversity, Hunting and Countryside Intergroup.
The major event was also the stage for the election and presentation of the new AFEMS President, Mr Thierry Jacobs from FN Herstal, Belgium. Mr Torbjörn Lindskog was appointed Honorary President in charge of the external relations and maintaining the role as President of the WFSA.
The next AFEMS Congress will be held in June 2020, in Prague (Czech Republic).

More than ammunition: AFEMS' commitment towards sports, environment and social inclusion
Hunting and sport shooting are sometimes perceived in a negative way despite the industry's continuous commitment to positively impact the communities where these sports are practiced. Why join AFEMS

So why join AFEMS? AFEMS membership offers you and your company many benefits at a rate which also offers considerable value for money.

The key benefit of AFEMS membership is the opportunity to network. As well as meeting individuals who share a common interest, you will develop many new, professional relationships. Our members particularly value the contacts they make at face to face meetings with their peers, together with the information they gather at these events.

The challenges which our sector faces are so many and complex, that no single company can efficiently, or effectively, tackle them alone. AFEMS offers an effective mechanism by which our joint efforts can be coordinated in pursuit of common objectives, to better ensure a positive outcome for our industry.

AFEMS is affiliated to CEFIC, the European Chemical Industry Council, whose membership numbers 29,000 large, medium and small chemical companies in Europe, including some of the most high profile. This partnership enables AFEMS to access critical information relevant to our sector and also allows us early access to European Institutions on relevant technical, scientific and legislative matters.

The recent, major report on Lead ammunition, prepared in response to Reach Regulation requirements, is a real example of what AFEMS can accomplish to ensure the adoption of proportionate policies in relation to our sector.

In 2011 AFEMS celebrated its 60th anniversary. During its lifetime, AFEMS has made a fundamental contribution, supporting the expansion of the sporting ammunition sector and overcoming its challenges. The growth of our Association over the last 60 years is proof of AFEMS' continued ability to benefit our industry.

Indeed, thanks to its long history and experience AFEMS has an excellent reputation and is, today, regarded as the European association of the sporting ammunition sector, able to fully address its challenges.
